Do you associate sightseeing with a guide with boredom? If so, it’s time to set this straight and the way to do this is to take part in a trip with a guide organised in various Vamian and Masurian towns. The trips are very popular among tourists and locals,sometimes a group consists of dozens of people. In order to make it more tempting, participation is free of charge.
Free Tour Olsztyn
In the regional capital Olsztyn, the trips are organised by The Promotion and Tourism Office of Olsztyn City Hall and Urban Tourist Information Office. The trips start at 4 p.m. and the meeting point is in front of the entrance of the Urban Tourist Information Office at 1 Maja street. The trip lasts about 2 hours and finishes a few minutes to 6 p.m. In Olsztyn the Planetarium gives visitors a chance to participate in the evening screening. Trip participants can get tickets at a discount price. The route takes participants around the old town of Olsztyn to show the most important monuments and bring information about history and city attractions closer to the people. Then the route takes them along the Łyna river through Central Park to the planetarium. In Olsztyn you can also take part in theme trips with a PTTK guide called ‘A guide awaits’.
Saturday with a Guide in Elbląg
The Association of Tour Guides’ im. R.Gierzyńskiego’, PTTK Elbląg Land Section has been organizing a unique series of trips called ‘Saturday with a PTTK guide’ for 10 years. The main themes of the trips, which are organised in the form of free of charge walk, are history, monuments, legends, nature as well as numerous other curiosities connected with the oldest town of the voivodship.
Mysteries of old Ostróda
In Ostróda trips with a guide are organised during the long May weekend and then on every Saturday from June to the end of September. They begin at 1 p.m. from the castle in Ostróda and you will visit the museum and ascend the viewing tower of the church at Sienkiewicza street. Along the 2 hour route you learn some history of the town and its most interesting secrets.
Trough Iława with a Guide
The trips in Iława take place every Saturday in summer. They start at the Town Hall at 11:00 a.m. and there are various theme trips on offer such as: the town’s history’s starting point, old ways of spending holidays in the town, famous inhabitants, forest educational trails, an expedition to Wielka Żuława island, Pan Samochodzik walking tours, restaurants and cafes of old Iława and legend and folk tales tours too.
Walking Tour through Historic Mrągowo
Every year the Local Tourist Organisation ‘Mrągowo Land’ organises free of charge walking town tours during the long May weekend. Mrągowo walking tours are interesting because the town did not undergo any destruction in World War II. That’s why you can feel the original atmosphere of an old east Prussian town. The historical Town Hall dates back to 1824 and, it is the second oldest town hall in Masuria. The walking tours with a guide let you learn the history of the architecture of Mrągowo buildings. Historic buildings in different architectural styles can be found along the main town streets such as: Warszawska, Królewiecka and Roosevelt streets. While walking along cobblestone street, it is worth looking at the facades of the buildings which are characterised by numerous architectonic details.
